What you'll get
The aim of the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing qualification is to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment as a Level 2 Fitness Instructor.
The Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training aims to develop a learners existing knowledge and skills to a professional level, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding into and pursue a career in personal training, whether employed or self-employed.
The VTCT Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Physical Activity is a qualification that has been designed to enhance your knowledge of nutrition for physical activity.
In this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles of nutrition, key guidelines, nationally recommended practice, the relationship between nutrition and physical activity, how to collect and use nutritional information, and the principles of nutritional goal setting. You will also develop the skills and techniques needed to collect and analyse nutritional information, and apply nutrition to an exercise and physical activity programme in support of client goals.How you'll get it
The qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a gym instructor and personal trainer. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:
- Anatomy and physiology for exercise and fitness professionals
- Professional practice for exercise and fitness professionals
- Exercise, fitness and lifestyle consultation and management
- Planning and instructing gym-based exercise programmes
- Applied anatomy for exercise, fitness, health and wellbeing
- Designing and delivering personal training programmes
- Nutrition for exercise, fitness, health and wellbeing
- Business awareness and acuity for personal trainers
- Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology in an applied context. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to pre-screen clients, consult with clients and follow health and safety practices in a health and fitness environment, gather relevant lifestyle information and conduct appropriate fitness assessments. Learners will develop skills to induct individuals and groups to gym equipment and design and deliver personal training sessions, provide appropriate healthy eating guidance and support clients with changing lifestyle behaviours to promote health and wellbeing. They will also develop business awareness in an applied context. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team working skills and research skills will also be developed.
When you'll get it
Both the online Level 3 Diploma in Fitness and Personal Training and Level 3 Award in Nutrition are self-paced courses. This means they can be completed as quickly or as long as you'd like. On average, learners who can commit to an hour of study across 4-6 days a week, can complete this package in 12-16 weeks
After you've got it
These qualifications are fully endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). Learners who achieve these qualifications are eligible to become personal trainer and become a member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). As a personal trainer, learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:

- Public leisure centres
- Specialist personal training studios
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based training settings
