Who are these qualifications for?
The aim of the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing qualification is to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment as a Level 2 Fitness Instructor.
The Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training aims to develop a learners existing knowledge and skills to a professional level, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding into gym instruction and pursue a career in personal training.
The VTCT Level 3 Award in Designing Physical Activity Programmes for Antenatal and Postnatal Clients is a specialist vocational qualification focused on developing the knowledge, understanding and skills needed for working with this specialist population.
What do these qualifications cover?
The qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a gym instructor, personal trainer and pre/postnatal specialist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:
- Anatomy and physiology for exercise and fitness professionals
- Professional practice for exercise and fitness professionals
- Exercise, fitness and lifestyle consultation and management
- Planning and instructing gym-based exercise programmes
- Applied anatomy for exercise, fitness, health and wellbeing
- Designing and delivering personal training programmes
- Nutrition for exercise, fitness, health and wellbeing
- Business awareness and acuity for personal trainers
- Designing physical activity for antenatal and postnatal clients
- Principles of physical activity for antenatal and postnatal clients
Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology in an applied context. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to pre-screen clients, consult with clients and follow health and safety practices in a health and fitness environment, gather relevant lifestyle information and conduct appropriate fitness assessments. Learners will develop skills to induct individuals and groups to gym equipment and design and deliver personal training sessions, provide appropriate healthy eating guidance and support clients with changing lifestyle behaviours to promote health and wellbeing. They will also develop business awareness in an applied context. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving, team working skills and research skills will also be developed.
What could these qualifications lead to?
On successful completion of this qualification you will be able to gain employment as an exercise referral instructor and will be eligible for registration onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3.
Learners can progress onto specialist level 4 instructor qualifications such as low back pain and obesity and diabetes.
This qualification is fully endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
