Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral

Regulated by OFQUAL and approved by CIMSPA and REPs, The purpose of the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral is to provide the learner with the knowledge and understanding of applying the principles of anatomy and physiology, medical conditions, professional practice, and nutrition. Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to plan and instruct suitable programmes of exercise for referral patients.

The Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral is aimed at those learners who are currently working, or wish to work, within the fitness and active leisure sector.

In order to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral learners must achieve the below mandatory units:

To achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training, learners must achieve the below mandatory units:

• Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise and Health
• Understanding Medical Conditions for Exercise Referral
• Applying the Principles of Nutrition to a Physical Activity Programme
• Planning Exercise Referral Programmes
• Instructing Exercise with GP Referred Patients

These units will be assessed through a range of methods, including a portfolio (workbook), online multiple choice exam and practical assessment

The online Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral is a self-paced course. This means learners can complete as quickly or as long as they'd like. We estimate a 6-8 week completion time for those that can commit to at least an hour of study a day, for 3-5 days week.

On successful completion of this qualification you will be able to gain employment as an exercise referral instructor and will be eligible for registration onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3. 

Learners can progress onto specialist level 4 instructor qualifications such as low back pain and obesity and diabetes.

This qualification is fully endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
