The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and application of number involved, and learners should have basic skills in communication and application of number at levels 3 and 2 respectively.
Learners who complete this qualification will be able to gain employment and obtain insurance to work as a sports massage therapist.

The Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy for Sports is aimed at those learners currently working in the sports and active leisure sector.
The purpose of the Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy for Sports is to provide learners with the knowledge of anatomy and physiology for sports massage, provide an understanding of sports massage techniques, and demonstrate professional practice. The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements needed to work effectively and efficiently as a sports massage therapist. This includes anatomy and physiology, professional practice, an understanding of the principles of health and fitness and how to provide sports massage treatments. The level 3 sports massage therapist will be able to work safely and effectively on dysfunctional tissue in a range of context, to include, pre-event, post event, intra-event and for maintenance purposes
In order to achieve the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training learners must complete the below mandatory units:
Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage
Principles of Health and Fitness
Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
Professional practice in sports massage
Sports massage treatments
These units will be assessed through a range of methods, including a portfolio (workbook), external multiple choice exam and practical assessment.
The part time version of the course requires you to study theory aspects of the course from home, using our dedicated student platform. You will attend a minimum of 2 workshops (usually a Saturday or Sunday spaced out over a few weeks) where you will learn the practical element of the course. You will also be required to attend an assessment day where you will be assessed in delivering sports massage treatments.

With the mentored version of the course, you are allocated a tutor/mentor who will guide you through the course from start to finish. Contact days are delivered on a 1-2-1 basis and will be taken at one of our many dedicated centres (it may be possible to hold the contact days at your own clinic, but cannot be guaranteed as it is dependant on tutor availability and location). These days, including the exams and final assessment are arranged between you and the tutor.
